WIPA Announces Launch of Mentorship Initiative

March 30, 2021

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) is pleased to announce the launch of WIPA’s mentorship initiative.

WIPA strongly believes that the rich knowledge and wealth of experience that endures in West Indies cricket is crucial to the development of our present and future cricketers. The mentorship initiative will connect former West Indies cricketers with current West Indies cricketers, with the aim to assist in empowering players to unlock their full potential on and off the field, a process that will be open to all West Indies players.

WIPA will play an active role in coordinating the exchanges between former and current players, being mindful of the unique experiences and skillsets of mentors. An impressive cadre of former players have already agreed to partner with us as mentors, among them are Clive Lloyd, Ian Bishop, James ‘Jimmy’ Adams, and Merissa Aguilleira.

Jimmy Adams in conveying his support stated, “WIPA’s mentorship initiative is a timely effort that I fully endorse. Any process that will enable a transfer of knowledge in an encouraging and supportive environment can only be a positive one which will benefit our young players and which I am happy to support.”

WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds expressed, “I am excited about the opportunities that this initiative brings. I would like to thank all the former players who have agreed to partner with us and I encourage our present players to make the most of the access being made available to them.”
