West Indies Under-19 Can Hold Heads High Despite Under-19 World Cup Exit

West Indies Men's Under 19

Australia Under-19 v West Indies Under-19 scorecard

A tough day for West Indies fans as the West Indies Under 19 team made an unfortunate exit to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

As the threats of lightning and rain grew, the hopes of a victory to secure a spot in the Semi-Finals of the tournament were diminished.

Although heartbroken by the result, Stephan Pascal, the captain of West Indies Under-19 said he feels like everything happens for a reason. He added that the big partnership in the middle for the Aussies was the turning point of the game as they bowled well in the initial stages and at the death. He ended with saying that they need to have more awareness and patience in the game, which they will work on, in the future.

CWI Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe said:

On behalf of CWI and West Indies fans, we want to congratulate our under-19 squad for a hard-fought campaign in this ICC Men’s U19 World Cup. Though not the final result we wanted, we are certainly heartened by the dedication, resilience, pride and skill we showcased. There is certainly a lot to work with in that group by way of talent. Congratulations also to the team management unit most of whom have been with the bunch as early as a year ago. CWI will now be looking to continue to the work to transition these players to senior domestic cricket and eventually into our senior West Indies teams.
