BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the West Indies PlayersAssociation (WIPA) on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 hosted a player development seminar for the region’s cricketers.

CWI and WIPA simultaneously conducted workshops at the Marriott Resort in St Kitts and the Hilton Hotel in Trinidad on Fitness, Nutrition, WIPA’s Player Welfare and Education Online Platform, Concussion Management, Financial Management and the CWI/WIPA MOU. Among others, WIPA President and CEO Wavell Hinds, CWI CEO Johnny Grave, CWI Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams and WIPA Director Wayne Lewis all had the opportunity to directly engage over one hundred (100) cricketers, who posed pertinent questions, provided valuable feedback, and expressed that they were pleased with the seminar.

Jamaica Scorpions captain, Rovmon Powell, commenting on the seminar said, “The Jamaica Scorpions team was pleased with how the sessions went. It was very informative and came at the right time when most persons were looking for information, whether it be on managing finances or the fitness and nutritional aspect of the sport. What also made the session important was the presence of key persons (Mr. Hinds, WIPA and Mr. Adams, CWI) who we could direct questions to.”

“The seminar was informative. It has encouraged us to be keen about our financial investments and health. It has also helped us to understand the coordination among WIPA, CWI and players, and the expectations moving forward,” said Imran Khan, captain of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.

Jonathan Carter, captain of the Barbados Pride, commented “I think it was very educational and beneficial. It’s something that should be done a lot more not only for educational purposes but to keep us on par with what we should know.”

“I thought it was a great initiative. It was very educational especially for the young players who wouldn’t have been exposed to information on how to manage their lives and careers.” – Windward Islands Volcanoes captain, Kirk Edwards.

Two teams kick off their Super50 campaigns on Wednesday, November 6 in St. Kitts as the CCC Marooners battle the Leeward Island Hurricanes at Warner Park.
