Selman, Connell ruled out in further blow to Windies

LEICESTER, England—

Connell, 24, limped out of West Indies’ second match against India last Thursday after sending down just four overs and was subsequently diagnosed with a hip injury.

The 27-year-old Selman, meanwhile, a veteran of 66 One-Day Internationals, suffered a blow to the head with the ball while fielding in the opening match against Australia Women last Monday and has not played since. The International Cricket Council announced Monday the pair would be replaced by batsman Kycia Knight and fast bowler Subrina Munroe.

Knight, the twin sister of Kyshona Knight who is already a member of the Windies squad here, is an experienced campaigner with 44 ODIs but had a lean Regional Super50 domestic tournament last April with just 35 runs in six outings.

The 32-year-old Munroe has played 23 ODIs and was was one of the leading fast bowlers in the domestic tournament with 13 wickets at eight runs apiece.

West Indies Women are bottom of the World Cup standings without a point after losing their first three games of the campaign. The Caribbean side face New Zealand Women in their fourth match of the World Cup on Thursday. (CMC)
