KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) extends condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of distinguished former women’s cricket trailblazer Dorothy Hobson.
Dorothy Hobson was an outstanding leader on and off the cricket field, and made great strides as player, captain, coach, and administrator. Hobson was a member of West Indies’ first women’s cricket team, and played in the 1973 Women’s Cricket World Cup. She became a monumental pillar of women’s cricket in Jamaica and the West Indies, serving as selector and mentor to cricketers and administrators alike. Hobson died on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the age of 79 after a brief illness.
WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds, expressed, “On behalf of the executive, management, staff and members of the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA), I express sincere condolences to the family and friends of former Jamaica and West Indies women’s cricket pioneer, Dorothy Hobson, may you find strength and peace in your time of grief. We honour Dorothy Hobson’s legacy and her invaluable contribution to the sport. Ms Hobson’s impact was personal, serving as my high school cricket coach for the 1992-93 season, her lasting impact will forever live on in our hearts and lives.”
