October 2, 2023

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) proudly and whole-heartedly congratulates West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews and the West Indies Women’s team on their historic victory over Australia by 7 wickets, the highest ever successful run-chase in women’s T20Is, at the North Sydney Oval, Australia, on Monday, October 2, 2023.

WIPA celebrates with Matthews on her all-round brilliant performance to lead the West Indies to a memorable win; a thrilling century, 132 runs from 64 balls, at a strike-rate of 206.25, including 20 fours and 5 sixes, one of the best innings of all-time, and 3-36 with the ball. We also congratulate Stafanie Taylor on her 22nd T20I half-century, which was vital to chasing down Australia’s 212 and securing a stunning record victory for West Indies.

“We are so very proud of Hayley Matthews and the West Indies Women’s team for orchestrating the highest successful run-chase in women’s T20Is to win by 7 wickets over the Australia Women’s team. Congratulations to Hayley Matthews on her 3rd T20I century and leading the team in the extraordinary manner she has, to Stafanie Taylor on yet another T20I half-century and her continued invaluable contribution to West Indies cricket, and to the West Indies Women’s team on this historic victory. We celebrate with you all and wish the team continued success”, remarked WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds.

Scores: AUS W 212/6, Perry 70, Litchfield 52*; Matthews 3-36. WI W 213/3, Matthews 132, Taylor 59; Schutt 2-30. The series is tied 1-1 with the 3rd and final T20I to be played on October 5.
