Windies ready for final battle

April 30, 2015

Vice-captain Kraigg Brathwaite has said the West Indies are aware of where they fell down in Grenada and will be seeking to level the series in Barbados.

Speaking to journalists this afternoon at Kensington Oval he said the players had done their homework and were definitely looking forward to the third and final Test of the series on Friday at Kensington Oval.

“We are quite confident. I thought the last two games we did a good job also. On day five in Grenada obviously we let ourselves down, but we know what we have to do,” Brathwaite said.

The Barbados-born Brathwaite noted it was expected that the pitch on Friday would be a good one. “I am not too sure about it being fast but there will be some bounce and I believe it will be a good cricket pitch for all five days.”

West Indies head coach Phil Simmons said the players had to show greater awareness of the match situation. It was a reference to the final day of the second Test where the West Indies started the day in the relative safety of 201 for 2 and in an excellent position to earn a draw. However, poor batting saw them capitulate shortly after lunch to lose the game by eight wickets.

Since yesterday both West Indies and England have been hard at work in the nets preparing for the final Test with England’s grasp now firmly on the Wisden Trophy.

On Friday night the players were feted at the official residence of the British High Commissioner to Barbados, Victoria Dean, and also interacted with Governor-General Sir Elliot Belgrave.

Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.
