WALSH JR SUCCESS INSPIRES COTTOY AHEAD OF SUPER 50

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – The breakout CPL 2019 performance of Haydn Walsh Jr and current drive by CWI to find leg spin talent around region, highlighted by Mushtaq Ahmed’s spin bowling camp held in June is what motivating 29-year old leg spinner Keron Cottoy to lift his game ahead of the Super50.

On what is his personal aims going into this years Super50 following the CPL:

It’s quite simple for me to give my best at all times and that is on and off the field. Following the Windward Islands tournament I know have a huge role to play considering I play all three disciplines – bat, bowl and field – I want to do that as freely and effectively as possible to benefit the team.

On as a fellow leg spinner how inspiring it was to watch Haydn Walsh Jr perform in CPL and what kind of motivation did it give him to perform:

Most definitely, we all know that leg spin is a very difficult art hence looking at Haydn Walsh Jr throughout competition it was absolutely amazing to see his rise.It goes to show hard work definitely pays off.

Right now I know the West Indies selectors are actually looking at spinners across the region, for me that is a huge motivator to put in the hard work and let the universe decide then what will happen.

On what the experience was like speaking to famous overseas leg spinners, Imran Tahir and Fawad Ahmed and what did he learn from them about improving his leg spin bowling ?

First and foremost it was absolutely amazing to interact with Fawad Ahemed during the CPL and obviously we know he is one of the best leg spinners around right now.

I was just looking to learn as possible from him by picking his brain and stuff. He did not only tell me what does or what he looks to do, but he actually demonstrated to me which was a total dream come through and great motivator and step in the right direction with regards to my personal development.

On how he and his team have been preparing for the tough Group B challenge of facing hosts Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana:

What I can say is that cricket is get tough game no matter the opponent. What I can safely say without giving away too much is that I have preparing well with the Windward Islands team here in Grenada.

I’ve been working on the basics and the team has been doing that as well, because we all know once we play cricket the team that does the basics as long as possible becomes winners.

I think guys are all fit and excited ahead of this years competition. For me I want to enjoy competition as much as possible I love a keen and good contest. I’ve been paying a lot of attention to my bowling, making sure I can spin it (the ball) as hard as possible ahead of this years competition.

I just want to wish my teammates and I know for a fact once we stick to the plans that we have and obviously the basics we are going to do pretty well.

So as it relates to our opponents I’m not too worried about that, just playing best cricket on the given day.
