Jaggesar Aiming For Third Super50 Career Title

November 5, 2019

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – 33 year old off-spinner Jon-Russ Jaggesar has a unique record in Caribbean domestic cricket history, by winning the title with two teams.

In 2016 he clinched 14 wickets at an average of 13.50 to help Trinidad & Tobago Red Force win Super50 2016. Then last season playing for the Combine Campuses and Colleges (CCC), he claimed 10 wickets at 20.80 in their title win.

Jaggesar spoke to CWI Media articulating his personal and team goals ahead of the competition.

On being being involved in his home Red Force team this year after representing the CCC last year:

Its an honour representing my home franchise, Red Force. Last year CCC was a great experience and hopefully I can win the title again this year.

On what he believes are keys to Trinidad winning the tournament this year based on his experience of winning Super50 twice:

It is all about being consistent and doing the right things over a long period of time, taking it one session and one game at a time.

On how key on home soil do he view his potential bowling partnership with Imran Khan will be to the Red Force being successful in this years S50:

Imran Khan is usually a wicket taker. I think we have some key bowlers to assist him in myself, Akeal Hosein, Yannick Ottley to name a few. We will compliment him well and we should be able to overhaul our targets as a bowling unit.

On his career comparisons and relationship with Sunil Narine:

In the domestic tournament (in Trinidad) me and Sunil play for the same team, Queens Park (Cricket Club). So obviously we spend a lot of time practicing and he shares a lot of advice, telling me what he feels I need to work on.

It’s a prop to having a talent like Sunil on the same team, obviously playing with these players you watch, observe and learn.

On considering he has had experience playing for the West Indies at A team level, if this Super50 is an opportunity to impress new West Indies coach, captain and selectors or just him focusing on just doing well in the S50:

Every players long term goal is to play international cricket. Moving forward I want to regain title with Red Force, that’s my first goal.

If the opportunity arises to play for West Indies I will gladly accept it, so I’m looking for to doing well (in Super50) and representing West Indies in future.
