Taylor Clinical With Bat And Ball, But WI Go 2-0 Down In T20 Series

September 24, 2020

Stafanie Taylor turned in another excellent allround match performance but the West Indies captain was left disappointed to be on the losing end in the second T20 International against England on Wednesday night. Taylor batted well and made 28 runs after she bowled a great spell to take 2-12 off four overs.

However, the visitors went down by 47 runs – identical margin as the first match at the Incaro County Ground in Derby on Monday night. Taylor created history with the bat when she reached eight runs – to become the first West Indian woman to reach 3,000 runs in her T20 International career. She is just the second woman in history after Suzie Bates of New Zealand to reach the milestone.

West Indies looked well placed to chase it down the target of 152 as Deandra Dottin – with another topscore of 38 – and Taylor put on 61 for the second wicket. However West Indies slipped from 72-1 in the 12th over to end their 20 overs on 104-8 on a cold night as outdoor temperatures dipped to as low as 11 Degrees Celsius.

Earlier in the match Taylor again showed great control with her off-spin bowling as she was able to get turn on bounce from the surface. She was well backed up by seamer Shakera Selman, who continued to show great improvement, and ended with 2-32 to follow up her 3-24 in the first match.

The series continues on Saturday with the third match on Saturday afternoon. Fans can follow LIVE coverage on ESPN Caribbean – first ball is 8am East Caribbean/7am Jamaica.
