The 33-year-old struck a solid 73 in the Scorpions’ first innings as they crawled to a three-wicket win over Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the fourth-round Professional Cricket League (PCL) match at Sabina Park.
The tidy wicketkeeper, who has had his fair share of struggles with the bat, was involved in a crucial 110-run seventh-wicket partnership with Nikita Miller, who made 51 which set the tone for the Scorpions victory.
Baugh’s knock turned out to be the highest individual score in the game as the top and middle order of both teams failed to contribute significantly in the first innings where the Hurricanes wicketkeeper/batsman Jamar Martin (51) was the best scorer during their innings.
Interestingly, Baugh was only named in the 13-man squad for the Hurricanes game, which ended on Sunday with a day to spare, due to the absence of Chadwick Walton who had school commitments. The diminutive player, known as ‘Half A Man’ to his peers, was left disappointed after failing to score a century on return — after being overlooked for the game away to Trinidad & Tobago Red Force.
But in an age when wicketkeepers are expected to be above-average batsmen, Baugh is wary that consistency will be the key to lock down a place in the starting team this season, as he only mustered 68 runs in two games, prior to the Hurricanes game.
And with the Scorpions batting coming under heavy scrutiny over the years, the sometimes aggressive batsman is determined to prove a point as the team seeks to regain regional supremacy.
 “There will always be room for improvement and as the player I am, I will always try to up my game in every aspect. But at the moment, it is a start of what will be a better second leg of the season going forward and getting centuries will be my aim because I still have a few points to prove,” said Baugh.
After misfiring in the 10-wicket loss away to Barbados Pride in the opening round, they have now gathered momentum with three consecutive wins following a 30-run win over Windward Islands Volcanoes in Kingston and a six-wicket win away to Trinidad & Tobago Red Force.
With the win over the Hurricanes, Jamaica Scorpions moved to second in the standings with 50 points, three points behind undefeated Guyana Jaguars (53 points), who were in control of their fixture against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force on the final day yesterday.
 They are followed by Barbados Pride and the Red Force, who both have 28 points, the Volcanoes (21 points) prior to the completion of their fourth-round games yesterday, while Leeward Islands Hurricanes are rooted at the bottom of the table on 10 points.
