KINGSTON, Jamaica – The West Indies Players’ Association would like to express its surprise and concern regarding an alleged statement circulating in the media from West Indies Senior Team Coach Phil Simmons.

In this statement Coach Simmons made accusations of “outside influence” in the selection process of the West Indies Senior team. Coach Simmons also said, that the best ODI team was not selected to tour Sri Lanka in October/November of 2015.

WIPA President and CEO Wavell Hinds said today after hearing of the statement, “The selection process at all times must be independent, transparent and fair. The people of the Caribbean want the best possible team to represent them. We call on the WICB to address this fundamental policy with great urgency and clarity.
