KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) expresses condolences at the passing of prominent Jamaican photojournalist Headley “Dellmar” Samuels, O.D.

Dellmar Samuels was a lover of sports, and photographed track and field, football, but mostly cricket. Samuels covered West Indies cricket for over three decades, spanning some 175 Test matches and seven Cricket World Cups. Dellmar was conferred with the Order of Distinction in 2000 for his contribution to Caribbean cricket and was a life member of the Press Association of Jamaica.

WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds, expressed heartfelt condolences, “We’ve lost a giant photographer and journalist. His storytelling through his camera lens was legendary. Mr. Dellmar Samuels was a very special character who loved West Indies cricket immensely. It was a joy to interact with him on our many tours. My sincerest condolences to his family, friends and the cricketing fraternity. May his soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him.”
