KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) expresses best wishes to all Jamaicans in light of the impending threat of Tropical Storm Melissa.
Tropical Storm Melissa is forecast to become a major hurricane over the next couple of days and there is great concern regarding the likely impacts on Jamaica. A Hurricane Warning is currently in effect for the island. We wish that all past and current cricketers, and all people of Jamaica will remain safe.
WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds, commented, “We are closely monitoring the forecasts for Tropical Storm Melissa and we want to reassure cricketers in Jamaica of our solidarity and sincere sentiments at this time. We urge you to:
- Be Safe
- Monitor the official news platforms
- Check on your fellow teammates and WIPA members
- Check on your family and neighbours
- Help where you can.”
At 7:00am local time, Tropical Storm Melissa was located approximately 260km southeast of Kingston, Jamaica.
