WIPA Expresses Condolences at Passing of Gordon Brooks

July 1, 2021

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) expresses condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of accomplished photojournalist, Gordon Brooks.

The Barbadian-born photographer covered West Indies cricket for over 40 years dating back to the 1970’s. Many iconic moments in West Indies cricket history were captured through his lens, as he archived the exploits of the team during international tours and various tournaments. These images have adorned many publications, both in print and online, worldwide throughout his career. Brooks also founded the Nation Newspaper in Barbados as well as the Brooks/LaTouche Photo Agency. His legacy lives on through his son, Randy Brooks, who is a recognized photographer himself. Gordon Brooks passed away after a brief illness at the age of 81.

WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds expressed, “On top of being world-renowned and one of the Caribbean’s top cricket photographers, Mr. Gordon Brooks was a gentleman extraordinaire bar none. His contribution to West Indies cricket is well documented. I was privileged enough to have interacted with Gordon Brooks during my time at the wicket for the West Indies and hold pleasant memories of a gentleman who only knows how to humbly congratulate, encourage and listen. His rich legacy will continue through his son Randy Brooks, to whom, along with his family, we extend our sincere heartfelt sympathies. May his soul rest in peace and light perpetually shine upon him.”
