Kingston, Jamaica: The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Australian international cricketer Phil Hughes.

Speaking on behalf of West Indian cricketers, President and CEO of WIPA, Wavell Hinds, said: “Phil Hughes was a keen competitor and with his talent, had a bright future ahead of him in international cricket. Death is never something that any of us in the brotherhood of professional cricketers ever think about while we are playing, and this is what makes this tragic news so sad. I wish for his family God’s strength and comfort at this difficult time. The passing of such a young, talented cricketer is a hard pill to swallow. On behalf of the executive and members of WIPA, we take this opportunity to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to Phil’s immediate and extended family, “ said Hinds.
