Health Insurance Cards Distributed To All Six Regional Franchises

March 5, 2019

KINGSTON, Jamaica –The handing over of health insurance cards to the Barbados Pride franchise on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the office of the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) in Kingston, Jamaica, marked retained players of all six regional franchises now in receipt of health insurance cards.

In the brief ceremony, Business Development Officer of Excel Insurance Brokers, John Isaacs explained to members of the Pride franchise that the health insurance plan secured by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and WIPA covered players for US$4 Million per contract year for claims unrelated to cricket and an additional US$500,000 per contract year for claims related to cricket. Isaacs further outlined that the plan offers 100% coverage for emergency room visits, standard private/semi-private rooms, intensive care units, prescriptions, specialist visits, diagnostics, transplants, physical therapy and rehabilitation and much more. He then urged players to do all they could to remain contracted during their playing years in order to retain the benefit, noting that many health insurance plans do not cover sports related injuries.

WIPA Honorary Secretary and Operations Consultant, Wayne Lewis also spoke to players about capitalizing on the benefits WIPA provides and ensuring their voices were heard.
