WIPA Commends Merissa Aguilleira on National Award

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) commends former West Indies Women’s captain Merissa Aguilleira on receiving Trinidad and Tobago’s Hummingbird Medal (HBM) Gold Award.

Aguilleira received the prestigious award on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, for her contributions to the West Indies team and to sport in Trinidad and Tobago. Merissa played for the West Indies between 2008 and 2019 and was the team’s captain between 2009 and 2015. Merissa continues to contribute to cricket by being a member of the support and administration staff for the Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies teams.

WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds, remarked, “I heartily applaud Merissa Aguilleira on receiving Trinidad and Tobago’s Hummingbird Medal (HBM) Gold Award. Merissa’s service to Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies cricket is noteworthy and certainly deserving of such recognition. I wish Merissa all the best in her future endeavours.”
