Windies fined for slow over rate

January 30, 2015

West Indies have been slapped with a fine by the International Cricket Council, for their slow over rate during Wednesday’s loss to South Africa in the fifth and final One-Day International.
Match referee Chris Broad found that the Caribbean side were two overs short of their target at the cut off time for the innings at SuperSport Park.

While the players were slapped with a 20 per cent fine of their match fee, new captain Jason Holder will have to part with 40 per cent.

According to ICC regulations, players are fined ten per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. The captain is fined double.

West Indies went down by 131 runs in the game which was reduced to 42 overs per side because of rain which delayed the start.

South Africa won the series 4-1.
