Williams – one of the positives from series, says Brathwaite

April 5, 2017

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Rookie West Indies seamer Kesrick Williams has come in for praise from skipper Carlos Brathwaite, for his steady performances during the just concluded Twenty20 series against Pakistan.
The 27-year-old grabbed only four wickets in his four outings but proved the most economical of the Windies front-line bowlers, with a rate of just six runs per over.
Brathwaite said Williams’ input was one of the positives which had emerged despite the disappointing 3-1 series defeat.

“I think his performance was excellent. I told him ‘congrats, very well done, very, very good series’,” Brathwaite told reporters here.
“And for a young man, he played his first game in Abu Dhabi and showed the world what he could have done.
“The challenge is always to come back and do it again and he did again, again and again. His was one of the stand-out performances for the series and that’s definitely a positive going forward.”

Williams made his debut in the 3-0 series whitewash to Pakistan last September in the United Arab Emirates, bowling excellently in his only match of the tour to claim two for 15 from his four overs.
He built on that performance over the last week and was at his best with two for 16 in Sunday’s final game here which West Indies lost by seven wickets.
Brathwaite said with the squad now disbanding for differing engagements, players needed to reflect in order to improve their performances for the next T20 assignment against touring Afghanistan in June.

“We split up again. Persons go their separate ways, whether it’s to the ODI series or to IPL and then we meet again for Afghanistan,” the all-rounder noted.
“We need to know what we did well and do that well against Afghanistan and admit where we went wrong in this series and put it (right) against Afghanistan when we meet back up.”
