February 12, 2024

The West Indies Academy handed the Leeward Islands Hurricanes a shocking 5 wicket defeat at Warner Park in St. Kitts.

The Hurricanes posted 232 all out in their second innings, giving them a 192-run lead on the final day of Round 1 matches. Wicketkeeper batsman Jahmar Hamilton played a patient 70-run innings to add to the 55 scored overnight by Mikyle Louis, as the Hurricanes pushed for a victory over the young Academy team. Joshua Bishop’s 3/33 and Johann Layne 3/45 were the best bowling figures from the Academy attack.

The Academy’s opening batsmen Rashawn Worrell and Kadeem Alleyne got their team off to a flyer, belting the Hurricanes bowlrs around Warner Park. The pair reached 80 before Alleyne was caught for 57 and Worrell fell in the next over for 21. Mbeki Joseph and Akeem August added 39 before Auguste was bowled by Jeremiah Louis for 22. James smashed five sixes and two fours, bringing up the winnings runs with one of those sixes, to finish on 41 not out from 21 deliveries, Joseph was not out at the non-striker’s end on 43 off 64 deliveries, which included four sixes of his own.
