Thumbs up for Brian Lara Stadium

May 14, 2017

An estimated 11,000 spectators witnessed the historic opening of the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on Friday night.

The reigning world batting record holder, who the stadium is named in honour, led his XI to a resounding victory over an International team in a match which was both a trip down memory lane and a peak into the future of what is possible for what many say is a world class facility.

Guardian Media Sports posed the question to cricket fans, “What is your assessment and first impression of the facility?”

Sherene Lewis-Haddad, Barrackpore

“I think it’s a first class ground. The pitch looked good and the grounds itself is very accommodating and I think it will be a good place to host international matches.”

Tara Mendoza, Claxton Bay

“I find the ground looks lovely and I see international matches being hosted here very soon.”

Mahesh Gobin, Aranguez

“The only thing they need to fix is parking. They need to arrangee it properly because as it is, its very inconvenient and disorganized. But iT is a great venue.

Angel Battoo, Penal

“Oh yeah! It could be a little bigger only because international cricket will draw a larger crowd but other than that everything seems to be up to mark.”

Ahkeel Mollon, Chaguanas

“Its excellent! It’s world class! It’s more spacious, more hospitable to the public than other venues. You get to see the game better and its also easy to enter and easy to exit.”

Dwayne Bravo, International Cricketer

“Great facility! Top class! Congrats for everyone who made it possible and well done to Brian for getting something going that he was so passionate about. Obviously it will need some tweaking but it is international standard and I’m happy with it.”
