St. Lucia Stars sign Ryder and McClenaghan

July 31, 2017

St. Lucia Stars have signed up New Zealanders Mitchell McClenaghan and Jesse Ryder for the forthcoming season of the Caribbean Premier League. McClenaghan replaces Sri Lankan seamer Lasith Malinga while Ryder comes in for South African batsman David Miller.
It is understood that David Miller will be joining the South African A squad for the four-day games against the touring India A side. With the teams playing two matches, Miller would have missed a majority of CPL 2017. Malinga, the veteran Sri Lankan seamer who has been beset with injury problems off late, is likely to feature in the limited-overs series against India beginning on August 20.
Ryder last played for New Zealand in 2014 and has since been playing in T20 leagues around the world. He last turned up for Galaxy Gladiators in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz. The 33-year-old was named in the New Zealand indoor squad for the World Cup taking place in Dubai in September.
McClenaghan, who will be replacing his Mumbai Indians team mate Malinga, is a handy limited overs bowler. In the three IPL seasons, the New Zealand pacer has scalped 54 wickets in 40 games and has been part of two championship winning sides.
Manan Pandya, Director of Public Relations of St Lucia Stars, expressed his excitement. “Both Jesse and Mitchell are world-class players who will bring firepower to the squad in terms of both batting and bowling. We are sure that these new Stars will shine as we work on bringing home our first Hero CPL title.”
CPL2017 begins on August 4 (Friday) with the Stars featuring in the opener against Trinbago Knight Riders.
