With just one day to go before the much-anticipated start of the ICC Women’s World T20 2018, fans in Guyana and St Lucia have received a major transport boost. The local organizing committees and the ICC have put on free shuttles to get spectators to the matches and then return home.
The shuttles will start on Friday, 9 November for the opening round of matches in Guyana. Home team the Windies will play the day’s final match — the defending champs will start against Bangladesh at 8pm at the Guyana National Stadium. The other matches in opening day see India take on New Zealand at 11am; followed by Australia vs Pakistan at 4pm.
The opening day at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia is Saturday, when England face Sri Lanka at 4pm. The shuttle services will be available to several rural communities or districts far away from the grounds.
“As we approach the start of the tournament the momentum is building and fans are really excited to see the teams in action. We have answered the call to get more spectators to the matches and make sure they have a wonderful time,” said Jennifer Nero, Tournament Director.
“We have a lot of supporters coming from the rural areas and far distances so we want to make sure they arrive on time for the start and return home in comfort. We have decided to make this commitment for the good of our fans.”
Tickets are available at https://tickets.worldtwenty20.com; as well as box offices — in Guyana at Bourda Cricket Ground and Guyana National Stadium; while in St Lucia, at the ticket centre at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground. In Antigua fans can make purchases at the box offices at Coolidge Cricket Ground and ticket centre near Antigua Recreation Ground.
Tickets are priced from just US$3 with the focus on ensuring more people across the Caribbean can enjoy the event. The group stage matches at the Guyana National Stadium and the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia start at just US$3 (or GY $500) and US$4 (or EC$10) respectively.
The semi-finals and finals will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua with tickets for the semi-finals starting at just US$7 (or EC$20) and the final at US$11 (or EC$30). A combination ticket package for the semis and final is priced at only US$15 (EC$40).
Some of the biggest names and best voices on the music scene will be on stage for mega-concerts, which form part of fan engagement. Patrice Roberts – the soca super star from Trinidad; and Shenseea – the popular dancehall performer from Jamaica; will headline the shows on match days in Guyana and St Lucia.
The duo will also perform at the final in Antigua on 24 November. They are the voices behind the tournament song “Watch This” – which has been the rallying call for fans to support the tournament.
Kes The Band will be the headliners for the showpiece concert after the final at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground. The much-loved band from Trinidad famous for the hit song “Hello”, will bring a rousing end the tournament.
