The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force fought back against the Guyana Jaguars yesterday, denying their hosts an extra batting point before keeping them in the field for the majority of the second day of their Professional Cricket League four-day match at Providence Stadium in Guyana yesterday.

Marlon Richards, who went wicket-less on the first day of the match when the Jaguars were in control, came good early yesterday to dismiss Vishal Singh and Anthony Bramble in quick succession as the Guyanese slipped from an overnight score of 264 for six to 291 all out, falling nine runs short of a third batting point.

T&T were 173 for four at stumps yesterday with Yannic Cariah unbeaten on 71.

The Red Force still trail by 118 runs.

Earlier yesterday, overnight batsman Singh was caught by Cariah at second slip for 52 before Bramble was caught by Rayad Emrit for 63 as Richards finished with three for 46.

Singh, who scored a century against the Red Force when the two teams met at the Queen’s Park Oval late last year, frustrated T&T for more than five overs between Friday and yesterday and faced 171 balls.

Bramble faced 131 balls and batted for three hours and 45 minutes.

The Red Force were five for one after two overs after Jeremy Solozano was caught at second slip off Christopher Barnwell for three before slipping to 33 for two after lunch when Imran Khan was caught off Narsingh Deonarine for 18.

But Kjorn Ottley and Yannic Cariah staged a recovery to take T&T to tea without further loss. However, their partnership ended early in the final session as Ottley was caught by Shivnarine Chanderpaul at long-on off the bowling of Devendra Bishoo with the score on 112 for three.

He departed for 34 having spent a little over two hours in the middle.

Meanwhile, Cariah brought up his 50 off 115 balls and two hours at the crease before rain brought an early end to the day’s play.
