Paul Palmer’s XI were trailing John Campbell’s XI by six runs at the end of day two in the Jamaica Scorpions four-day trial match at Sabina Park yesterday.
Scores: Palmer’s XI 302 (82.5 overs) & 4-0 (3 overs); Campbell’s XI 310 (91.3 overs).
Captain Paul Palmer Jr, who is yet to score, and Guyanese Trevon Griffiths (two), will resume batting today.
A composed knock of 76 by Shacoya Thomas led John Campbell’s XI to 310, after trailing 302 to make Paul Palmer’s XI bat again.
The right-handed opener hit seven fours and one six off the 181 deliveries he faced during a patient knock, before being caught behind by wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton off leg-spinner Damion Jacobs.
Left-hander Kerry Holness, batting at number seven, also made a strong contribution with an aggressive knock of 64 off 53 deliveries, including nine fours and three sixes. Barbadian Kirk Edwards chipped in with 46, while Leeward Islands’ wicketkeeper batsman Devon Thomas made 31.
Nikita Miller took a knock on the helmet after taking his eye off a quicker delivery from pacer Jason Dawes, but was not seriously injured. However, he was later taken to a medical facility as a precautionary measure after complaining of a headache.
Dawes ended with four for 63 from 15 overs and David Bernard Jr two for 22, while Jacobs bagged two for 49 from 21 overs. left-arm spinner Coi Thompson and left-arm medium Gavon Brown took one wickets each.
Earlier, Palmer’s XI, who took first strike from Tuesday’s opening day, were dismissed for 302.
Palmer Jr led from the top of the order with a patient knock of 73 from 147 deliveries, which included eight fours and one six. Jacobs batting at number nine was the next best scorer, hitting three fours and two sixes in a snappy 52 off 51 deliveries, while Brown at number 11 was left unbeaten on 42. Bernard Jr contributed 38 at the number eight position, while Dawes batting at number 10 made 36.
Pacer Nicholson Gordon rallied the bowling attack with four for 49 from 17 overs. Marquino Mindley supported with two for 31, while spinner Patrick Harty Jr nabbed two for 88.
Today’s third-day is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
