ODI Defeat for the Windies Men

October 6, 2016

By WIPA Staff

The West Indies men suffered yet another defeat, as Pakistan wins the 3rd ODI in Abu Dhabi to take the series 3-0. On the back of three T20I wins and two ODI wins over the Windies, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. A seemingly unstoppable, in form Babar Azam made his way to yet another century, his third consecutive in this ODI series, to top-score with a 106-ball 117 runs. Another century from captain Azhar Ali saw Pakistan to 308-6 from their 50 overs.

The Windies began the run chase with Kraigg Brathwaite and debutant Evin Lewis. After surviving a review for lbw, Lewis fell for 22. Brathwaite and Bravo began to consolidate, but shortly after drinks, Brathwaite too got out lbw. Other than a bit of resistance from Denesh Ramdin, who top scored with 37, runs were slow in coming and wickets continued to tumble. In the 44th over, West Indies were all out for 172, losing the last 5 wickets for just 13 runs, giving Pakistan a commanding 136-run win.

The series win by Pakistan also saw the West Indies displaced from the number 8 spot in the ODI rankings. The Windies now face the daunting challenge of delivering better performances for the upcoming test series to begin on October 13.
