Lara: I’m Ok

March 7, 2017

West Indies batting legend Brian Lara has officially responded to last Wednesday Facebook post which suggested that he was injured in a vehicular accident while returning from a part with friends in the early hours of the said morning.

Yesterday, Lara responded with a press release which stated: “I wish to formally respond to the social media post which has been circulating for the last few days.

“It was an irresponsible action by whomever felt it wise to craft and send out this misinformation. Other than the fact that it consumed my day (and continues to so do) dispelling such information.

“My two little girls, family and friends were very disturbed to pick this up before hearing from me. To all my loved ones and fans across the globe, I am safe and sound.”

However, Guardian Media Sports did contact the T&T sports ambassador and reported that he was fine and not involved in any accident.

The release continued: “I also wish to share an update on the Brian Lara Islandwide Cricket Tour 2017, and inform that I was called out to Hong Kong immediately after Carnival.

“I will be off-island for an approximate six weeks. My community cricket drive will be put on hold for the month of March since I am not expected back in T&T before the end of April and we will resume our efforts to bring communities together. My upcoming commitments will include, the Hong Kong T20 Blitz, and speaking commitments and events in Dubai, Sri Lanka, Australia and Qatar before returning home.”

The release ended: “I am also looking forward to playing in the Sir Garfield Golf Tournament which I have been participating in for more than five years.

“This takes place during 27-30 April and immediately following, I will be taking part in the Prime Minister’s Golf Tournament scheduled for the 6th May.”
