Jaguars sweating over Fudadin’s fitness

December 31, 2014

Already faced with the unavailability of two senior players, the Guyana Jaguars are now sweating the availability of another senior player, Assad Fudadin, for the NAGICO Super50 limited-overs regional tournament in Trinidad and Tobago next month.

Both Narsingh Deonarine and Leon Johnson are part of the West Indies One-Day International squad to face South Africa, and will miss the Super50 tournament, while Fudadin is on the injured list. However, Guyana Times Sport understands that Fudadin could be out of action for six weeks.

Fudadin has been ruled out of the West Indies Test series in South Africa after fracturing a finger ahead of the opening Test at Centurion. He fractured the little finger on his right hand during the warm-up ahead of the first game, and underwent surgery later. The 29-year-old had been called up to the squad as a replacement for Darren Bravo, who pulled out due to personal reasons.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the selectors, Rayon Griffith, told Guyana Times Sport on Monday that he was still awaiting the details surrounding Fudadin’s injury. “I am not sure if he (Fudadin) will be out for the entire tournament, since I am still waiting on more details regarding his injury. “Fudadin is still in South Africa so at the moment I’m not given much detail,” Griffith said. Griffith also disclosed that the squad will be announced shortly.

The Under-19s have been drawn in Group B comprise the West indies Under-19, along with the Jamaica franchise, Leeward Islands Hurricanes and hosts Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, while the Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) has been drawn in Group A along with reigning champions Barbados Pride, Guyana Jaguars and Windward Islands Volcanoes.
