Ja Seek To Halt Cricket Slide

March 13, 2015

Out-of-contention Jamaica Franchise will seek to halt a string of four straight defeats when they oppose the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at Warner Park in St Kitts today.

The ninth round fixture will see both teams looking to end the season on a high by improving on their points tally.

Jamaica are a distant fourth in the standings on 65 points well off leaders and title-favourites, Guyana Jaguars, who has so far amassed 123 points.

Title-holders Barbados Pride are second on 100 points with third-place Windward Islands Volcanoes on 98 also in with the shot at the title with two rounds of matches remaining.

Jamaica, coming off a five wickets loss inside three days away to Guyana, will enter the match with an unchanged squad.

They may, however, think about changing the starting line-up with young batsman Cassius Burton and left-arm seamer Gavan Brown, getting the opportunity to show their worth once more.

Both have played a solitary game since the start of the season with neither featuring in the Guyana fixture.

The Leewards, who have lost all eight games to date, made one change to their 13-member squad.

Leg-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr has been dropped and has been replaced by batting all-rounder Orlando Peters.

Jamaica’s last victory, incidentally, came against the Hurricanes last December at Sabina Park.

In other matches, Guyana will attempt to wrap up the tournament on home soil when they host fifth-place Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, while Barbados will seek to remain in contention when they host the Windwards.
