Fully Vaccinated Fans In St. Lucia Get Chance To Catch World Champions In Action Under Lights

July 7, 2021

GROS ISLET, Saint Lucia – Cricket fans in St Lucia will welcome the news that they will be able to see the T20 World Champions in action under lights at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium. Fully vaccinated patrons will again be allowed to attend the matches, when defending T20 World Cup winners, West Indies face Australia in the CG Insurance T20 International (T20I) Series. The five-match series bowls off on Friday night. First ball is 7:30pm (6:30pm Jamaica Time).

In a similar move to earlier this international season in the Betway Test Series, the St. Lucia Government along with the St Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have come together to ensure a number of spectators will be in attendance. Provision has been made to initially accommodate 600 fans per match – with 400 seated in the Johnson Charles Stand and another 200 in the Castries Stand.Chris Gayle - T20I - South Africa

Johnny Grave, CEO of CWI said:

“Once again we have worked with closely with the Government and our colleagues at the SLNCA to allow West Indies supporters to see their favourite team in action under the lights. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the officials and staff who have worked tirelessly to make this a reality and we know the players will want to come out and entertain their fans. This CG Insurance T20I Series is sure to whet the appetite as our world champions host the Australian team in what will be a fascinating build-up to the ICC T20 World Cup later this year.”

Fully vaccinated fans are those who have received their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine two weeks before the match they will be attending. Spectators will also need to wear facemasks to gain entry to the match and then keep wearing masks throughout the match. Fans will also need to remain socially distanced at all times.

Ticket prices have been set at EC$50 per match; with a three-day offer at EC$120 – starting from the second match; as well as a five-day season ticket special at EC$200. Tickets can be purchased from the sales booth at the East Gate of the stadium and will run daily from 2pm to 7pm on non-match days and 12 noon to 5pm on match days.

For fans to get a ticket and gain access to the stadium, the following steps must be taken to meet COVID-19 match protocols:

  • Ticket office location is at the East Gate.
  • St. Lucia Ministry of Health officials will be on hand to validate vaccination documentation and check prior to purchase of a ticket.
  • Tickets will be available from 2pm to 7pm on non-match days and 12 noon to 5pm on match days.
  • Fans will need to present their ID, ticket and vaccination documentation to be allowed entry.
  • Fans will need to wear face masks at all times and socially distance in the stadium.
  • Fans will be accommodated in the Johnson Charles Stand and Castries Stand only.
  • No re-entry allowed if fans leave the venue.
  • Under-18s will not allowed entry.
  • Fans will only be able to purchase tickets for themselves. Friends or family members will need to buy their tickets separately for validation and to access tickets.
  • The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) has given authorization for valid ticket stubs to be used to facilitate movement during curfew hours on match days.

Additionally, with vendors not available in the stadium, fans will be able to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks. The following list of restrictions must be adhered to for entry into the ground on match day:

  • Fans can bring in coolers, of a size that can fit under a seat for food and drink (12x12x12).
  • Any ice in coolers must remain bagged to allow security inspection of coolers.
  • Glass bottles of any kind are not allowed.
  • Alcohol of any kind is not allowed.
  • No knives, sharp metal objects.

Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.
