Emrit healthy to face Jamaica

February 19, 2015

Rayad Emrit

Rayad Emrit has recovered from a hamstring injury and will lead T&T against Jamaica in the seventh round of the West Indies Cricket Board Professional League, which bowls off tomorrow at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

Emrit replaces Jeremy Solozano in the T&T squad, which will be playing its third match on the trot away from home. The T&T cricketers will be hoping to rebound from the sound thrashing they received against Barbados last weekend, when it lost by 222 runs.

T&T has struggled throughout the tournament and is in fifth position on the six-team standings, only ahead of the Leeward Islands. T&T has only won one match for the season which came against the Leewards.

T&T executive member Lalman Kowlessar is not certain Emrit will make a difference on the struggling team.

He said: “I am not sure he will change a lot, the players themselves have to make changes. With the skipper coming back hopefully there will be some incentive to do better.”

T&T is missing many of its senior players due to West Indian duty and personal reasons such as Darren Bravo, Sunil Narine and Ravi Rampaul but Kowlessar believes the young T&T team should be performing at a higher level.

“I did not expect them to win, but I expected a better account of themselves, we should be doing better.”

The team’s overall showing in the competition concerns Kowlessar especially in the batting department, but believes the bowlers are also below par.

T&T Squad

Rayad Emrit (captain), Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Yannic Cariah, Khesan ‘Yannick’ Ottley, Kjorn Ottley, Imran Khan, Akeal Hosein, Daniel St Clair, Steven Katwaroo, Shannon Gabriel, Marlon Richards, Deron Davis, Roland Sampath (manager), Augustine Logie (coach), Kelvin Williams (assistant coach), Oba Gulston (physiotherapist).
