Edwards in provisional squad for Super50

December 15, 2014

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Recuperating Test batsman Kirk Edwards is among 35 players named in a provisional Barbados Pride squad to prepare for next month’s WICB Super50 Championship.

The right-hander, who has played 17 Tests, is yet to suit up for a game in the Professional Cricket League first class tournament, as he recovers from injury.

A former Barbados captain, Edwards has been one of Barbados’ more successful batsmen in recent years, and averages nearly 38 in 69 first class matches.

However, he recently fell out of favour with West Indies selectors after poor returns in the Test and one-day series against the touring Bangladeshis.

He, however, managed a top score of 77 in three innings on the West Indies A tour of Sri Lanka in October.

Edwards will be joined by namesake, fast bowler Fidel Edwards, who has been overlooked for the first class championship.

Dwayne Smith, who last week announced his retirement from first class cricket, has not been named in the provisional squad.

Training sessions will begin today (Monday) and will run weekly from Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Four trial matches have already been scheduled for December 23rd, 27th, 30th and January 3.

The Super50 will run from January 13-26 in Trinidad & Tobago.

SQUAD: Miguel Cummins, Marlon Welcome-Goodman, Antonio Greenidge, Mario Rampersaud, Kyle Mayers, Roston Chase, Justin Greaves, Ryan Hinds, Jerome Jones, Kevin Stoute, Jomel Warrican, Ashley Nurse, Nekoli Parris, Javon Searles, Jamar Griffith, Renaldo Parris, Shane Parris, Tino Best, Kyle Hope, Shai Hope, Kenroy Williams, Marrodon Bend, Rashidi Boucher, Shamarh Brooks, Chaim Holder, Carlos Brathwaite, Jonathan Carter, Kyle Corbin, Dawayne Sealy, Nikolai Charles, Kirk Edwards, Kevin McClean, Shane Dowrich, Fidel Edwards and Ravendra Persaud.
