A superb century by Deandara Dottin, and a brilliant allround performance from Hayley Matthews led West Indies Women to victory over Pakistan Women in the first One-Day International on Monday.

Dottin set the tone with a well-made 132 off 146 balls as West Indies scored 253-8 off their 50 overs after being asked to bat first at the Karachi National Stadium. She hit 18 fours and two sixes and laid the platform for the challenging total. It was her second ODI ton, surpassing her previous best of 104 not out against Pakistan in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup at Leicester.

She added 119 for the third wicket with Matthews, who made 57 off 67 balls with eight boundaries. Close to the end of the innings Shemaine Campbelle marked her return to the international stage as she chipped in with 23 off 20 balls. Anam Amim was the best bowler for Pakistan with 5-35 off 10 overs wickets – including the key wickets of Dottin, Matthews and Campbelle.

Dottin was elated with her great performance and said she was especially pleased to bat deep into the innings.

“The plan was to occupy the crease build a foundation for the team. I knew I had to bat at least 40 to 45 overs. When I got to the half-century I knew it was time to start fresh again and look to build for the team and just bat on.”

In reply, Pakistan Women made 208-9 off their 50 overs. Matthews took 3-31 off 10 overs with her off-spin to lead the bowling. The early damage was done by Shakera Selman with the new ball as she took 2-35 off 10 overs.

The two teams will return to the same venue on Thursday for the second ODI. First ball is 10am local time (1am Eastern Caribbean time, 12 midnight Jamaica time).
