Cornwall, Blackwood Half-Centuries Rally West Indies “A”

July 25, 2019

NORTH SOUND, Antigua – Half-centuries from Rahkeem Cornwall and Jermaine Blackwood propped up the batting of West Indies “A” in the first “Test” against India “A” today.

Cornwall hit seven fours and three sixes in the top score of 59 from 100 balls in 1 ¾ hours and Blackwood slammed half-dozen boundaries in an obdurate 53, as West Indies “A” were bowled out for 228 in their first innings, after they chose to bat on the opening day of the match at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground here.

Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican struck in the final 15 minutes before the close, as the Indians reached 70 for one when stumps were drawn with Priyank Panchal not out on 31 and Shubman Gill not out on nine.

Cornwall and Blackwood shared 98 for the sixth wicket, after the home team stumbled to 97 for five in the final half-hour before lunch, but the rest of the batting failed to come to terms with the visitors’ bowling.

One-day captain Roston Chase made 25 and Warrican got 21, but no other West Indies “A” batsman reached 20, as the batting was undermined by Shahbaz Nadeem with 5-62 from 22 overs.
