West Indies captain Jason Holder has maintained his position as the Number 1 allrounder in Test cricket, while Roston Chase has joined him in the Top 10. Holder continues to sit on the top spot – a position he has held all year – while the fast-improving Chase earned a place at Number 8.

However, it’s the spectacular rise of two team-mates that have caught the headlines as the ICC released the latest Test table for batsmen, bowlers and allrounders. Rankings available on the ICC website https://www.icc-cricket.com

Shamarh Brooks, the classy middle-order batsman, made his first Test century against Afghanistan last week and in doing so helped the West Indies to a comprehensive nine-wicket win in the one-off Test. His brilliance with the bat was complemented by a herculean bowling performance from Rakheem Cornwall who took 10 wickets in the match including a record 7-75 in the first innings at the Ekana International Stadium in the city of Lucknow.

Brooks the 31-year-old was playing in his third Test match, moved up 68 places in the and is now at Number 62. Cornwall was in just his second Test and like Brooks playing his first outside the Caribbean. According to the ICC the 26-year-old went into the match at position 110 and jumped a whopping 63 places to be presently posted at Number 47. Earlier this week it was reported that West Indies leapfrogged Pakistan to move up one place in the team rankings from eighth to seventh.

Head Coach Phil Simmons complimented his players and said it was good to see the progress being made as individuals and as a group. West Indies played six Test matches this year. They beat England 2-1 at home to retain the prestigious Wisden Trophy, but lost 2-0 to India in the Caribbean, before overcoming Afghanistan on neutral turf.

“Rahkeem showed his quality. He’s a very good bowler and seven-for is excellent in any conditions. He returned to get three more in the second innings and that was great. He played Afghanistan at their own game and he beat them. Brooks, is a very classy batsman and it’s good to see him seize the moment and take ownership in a very mature way. It took him a while to break into the Test team, but he has shown his worth. It was good to see that we move up to seventh. That part of parcel of the game and hopefully we can continue that kind of progress when we play in England next summer.”
