A majestic maiden century by Kjorn Ottley propelled Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in a brilliant run chase as the easily beat Windward Islands Volcanoes to record their first win of this year’s tournament.

Set a target 255 the home team cruised to victory with two overs to spare, with the left-handed Ottley scoring 134 not out off 142 balls. His opening partner Tion Webster chipped in with 40 from 60 balls while Terrance Hinds slammed unbeaten 26 from 15 balls and captain Darren Bravo, 25.

Sent in earlier, Volcanoes were lifted by opener Johnson Charles who top-scored with 87 from 69 balls, along with Kavem Hodge who made 45 from 67 balls and Alick Athanaze who struck 39 from 49 balls at the top of the order.

Captain Andre Fletcher gathered 36 from 44 balls in his new role in the lower half of the order but Volcanoes found themselves short of a more competitive total after managing only 32 runs from the last five overs. They were limited largely by leg-spinner Yannic Cariah who claimed 4-57 and veteran off-spinner Sunil Narine who ended with 2-27.

The win for Red Force was their first following their no-result on Tuesday against CCC while Volcanoes slumped to their second defeat after losing their opener to Guyana Harpy Eagles, also on Tuesday.

“It was a totally team effort. Credit to our bowlers for the way they fought back to keep us in the game. they did a fantastic job,”

Ottley said after collecting his Player of the Match award.

“Then, to chase down the score with just four wickets down as great. I’m happy to get a hundred in a match winning cause and really good for our team to get our first win on the board.”
