West Indies opener John Campbell made his highest Test score in a brave fightback for West Indies against New Zealand on the third day of the second Test match on Sunday (Saturday night Caribbean Time).
The left-hander made 68 as the visitors reached 244-6 in the second innings after being asked to follow-on. He played a number of attacking shots with eight boundaries off 108 balls.
He eventually fell with the score at 134-5 as he tried to force a lifting delivery into the off-side but got an inside edge and could only watch in dismay with as an inside-edge ricocheted into the stumps. The effort, which lasted close to three hours, surpassed his previous best of 55 against Afghanistan in Lucknow, India a year ago.
Campbell and Shamarh Brooks provided some early resistance in their second innings with an 89-run stand for the third wicket. Brooks, who batted for over two hours in the first innings, was again able to hang in for close to two hours and hit four fours and a six, before he pushed at a well-pitched delivery and edged catch to the keeper.
Overall the West Indies are still under pressure. Bad light forced the players off the Basin Reserve about an hour before the scheduled end and umpires called play off just before 6pm.

Captain Jason Holder was on 60 not out and with him debutante Joshua Da Silva unbeaten on 25 as they managed to push the game into a fourth day on Monday, still trailing New Zealand by 85 runs. Due to the playing regulations play is due to start 28 minutes early at 10:32am (5:32pm Sunday East Caribbean/4:32pm Jamaica).
