Chanderpaul props up Lancashire

June 4, 2017

LONDON, (CMC) – Former West Indies Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul was in sight of yet another half-century as he helped prop up Lancashire on the second day of their County Championship Division One clash against Yorkshire here Saturday.
The veteran left-hander was unbeaten on 43 at the close as Lancashire, trailing by 150 runs on first innings ended on 141 for four.
Struggling on 81 for four, Lancashire were rallied by Chanderpaul who has so far added 60 in an unbroken fifth wicket stand with South African Dane Vilas, who was unbeaten on 22.
Chanderpaul has faced just 64 balls in just under an hour-and-a-half at the crease, and stroked seven fours.
Playing at Headingly in Leeds, the 42-year-old suffered a rare failure in the first innings when he fell for just three as Lancashire slumped to 123 all out after opting to bat first on Friday.
Seamer Ben Coad snatched six for 25 to destroy the innings.
Resuming from their overnight 93 for two, Yorkshire were eventually bowled out on Saturday for 273, with opener Adam Lyth top-scoring with exactly 100.
At Hove, Barbados-born England all-rounder Chris Jordan scored 37 as Sussex piled up a massive 579 for eight declared in their first innings.
The right-hander put on 91 for the seventh wicket with South African David Wiese (66) to further propel the innings after Sussex had resumed the day in a strong position of 339 for three.
Luke Wells, on 139 overnight, fell early in the morning after adding just 16.
