Brathwaite back as Barbados Pride captain

December 5, 2016

BRIDGETOWN: Barbados – As expected, West Indies Test and One-Day International opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite has taken over the captaincy of Barbados Pride from Kevin Stoute for the fourth round top-of-the-table Day/Night clash with defending champions Guyana Jaguars at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, starting on Friday.
All-rounder Stoute led the side in the first three matches against Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force and Jamaica Scorpions.

Test vice-captain Brathwaite is one five West Indies players just back from the Tri-Nation One-day International series in Zimbabwe who were named yesterday in the Barbados Pride 13-man squad.
The others are batsman Jonathan Carter, wicket-keeper/batsmen Shai Hope and Shane Dowrich and off-spinning all-rounder Ashley Nurse.

They replace all-rounder Kenroy Williams, who is nursing a hamstring injury, wicket-keeper Mario Rampersaud, leg-spinner Nikolai Charles, batsman Aaron Jones and fast bowling all-rounder Kevin McClean. Jones and McClean have not played for the season.
All told, there were nine Barbadians in the West Indies squad in Ziimbabwe. The others were captain Jason Holder, fellow fast bowling all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn and pacer Miguel Cummins.

Barbados Pride are in second position in the six-team Championship table on 33.4 points, just marginally behind Guyana Jaguars on 33.6 points.
Leeward Islands Hurricanes are on 29.4, followed by Jamaica Scorpions 28.6, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force 27 and Windward Islands Volcanoes 17.6.

Barbados squad: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Anthony Alleyne, Shamarh Brooks, Jonathan Carter, Roston Chase. Shane Dowrich, Justin Greaves, Shai Hope, Ashley Nurse, Omar Phillips, Kemar Roach, Kevin Stoute, Jomel Warrican.
Play starts at 15.00hrs in the Day/Night fixture.
