CPL still in red

September 9, 2016

THE Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has incurred a loss for the fourth successive year. While pointing to the success of staging matches in Florida for the first time, CPL chief executive officer Damien O’Donohoe reported that a combination of factors, including disappointing attendances in Barbados, contributed to the overall shortfall for the glitzy Twenty20 tournament that was played from June 29 to August 7.

After yielding cumulative losses of more than US$20 million for the first three years, organisers were optimistic of making a profit this year in light of staging six games at Central Broward Park in Fort Lauderdale.

Those matches attracted more than 30 000 fans over four days but weren’t enough to avoid another loss.
