Ali: More needed for WI upturn

September 23, 2015

Former Trinidad and Tobago cricketer Zaheer Ali believes simply changing the leadership of the West Indies cricket team is not sufficient to turn around the team’s fortunes.

He also noted that if a decision has to be made concerning changing the leadership of the team, it should not be reactionary, but part a strategic plan.

“I recognise and appreciate that we have not performed at the levels of expectation and there should be an analysis coupled with intelligent and critical thinking in order to ascertain the factors that have and continue to contribute to our gradual decline in terms of performance. However, apart from critical analysis and thinking, there must be strategic and medium plans in order to achieve the objective of rebuilding,” said Ali.

“We must appreciate as a cricketing fraternity that a team that is not scoring 400 runs consistently in an innings of a Test match or not being able to get 20 wickets in a timely manner consistently would most times be on the side of defeat and this may have little or nothing to do with captaincy apart from winning an important toss which comes down to faith,” he explained.
