Permaul omission an error says Kallicharran

April 27, 2015

Former West Indies and Guyanese player Alvin Kallicharran believes the board of selectors have made an error in omitting left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul from the current squad to face England.

“In terms of results, Permaul has taken a number of wickets and I believe form should play an important part in our selection, and what type form is getting wickets. To get that amount of wickets you have to be a good bowler,” Kallicharran said.

“Permaul has taken a number of wickets in the just concluded First-class season so leaving Permaul out, I think he should be a part of the eleven, so there is a question mark why his omission,” the former West Indies batman, who played 66 Tests said.

Kallicharran told the local Guyanese media that the inclusion of players that are in good form is a change that must take place in order to get the rewards of winning matches.

Kallicharran is, however, confident the selectors will get the balance right soon.

“I am not too sure what balance they want to pick the team on, but I believe in the West Indies now. The wickets are slow and spinners should be playing a bigger part in the game.”
