WIPA Expresses Condolences at Passing of David Holford

May 31, 2021

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) expresses condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of former West Indies player and WIPA’s first CEO, David Holford.

David Anthony Holford, born April 1940 in Barbados, was a handy all-rounder, captain of the Barbados team and played in twenty-four (24) Tests for the West Indies. He later served as West Indies manager and selector and is cousin to Sir Garfield Sobers. Holford is particularly remembered for his 105 not out in a 274 sixth-wicket stand with Sobers at Lords.

WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds expressed, “It is with deep sadness that we learnt of Mr. Holford’s passing. He was a true gentleman and statesman of the game and West Indies cricket. His contribution as WIPA’s first CEO left pillars on which our organization currently operates. May his family and friends find peace and strength at this sensitive time and may he rest in peace.”
