KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) congratulates Hayley Matthews on her appointment as the West Indies Women’s captain and salutes Stafanie Taylor on her magnificent tenure as captain over the last seven (7) years.
Hayley Kristen Matthews, one of the leading cricketers in the West Indies Women’s team, has served as its vice-captain since 2018 and is currently captain of the Barbados women’s team. The 24-year-old all-rounder made her debut for the West Indies in 2014 at 16 years old.
Stafanie Roxann Taylor O.D., arguably the leading cricketer in the West Indies Women’s team, has served as captain since 2015 and is captain of the Jamaica women’s team. The 31-year-old all-rounder made her debut for the West Indies in 2008 at 17 years old, smashing a 49-ball 90 on T20I debut against Ireland.
WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds, expressed congratulations and salutations to the two women, “Congratulations to Hayley Matthews on being appointed captain. With the knowledge gained over last eight (8) years in international cricket, we have all the confidence that her tenure will be successful.”
