Motie, Reifer bowl Jaguars into contention against Scorpions; Hodge puts Hurricanes in a spin to leave Volcanoes with final day chase; Ramdin leads strong batting to set up Red Force against Pride
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – All three matches in the West Indies Championship appear heading for outright wins following play on Saturday.
Gudakesh Motie and Raymon Reifer, left-arm spin and fast-medium bowlers respectively, bowled leaders and four-time defending champions Guyana Jaguars back into contention against Jamaica Scorpions at the Guyana National Stadium on the third day of seventh round matches.

At the same time – Kavem Hodge, a part-time left-arm spinner, did the same for Windward Islands Volcanoes against Leeward Islands Hurricanes at Windsor Park.
And, former WINDIES captain Denesh Ramdin fell just shy of a hundred to lead strong Trinidad & Tobago Red Force batting, leaving Barbados Pride to chase a sizeable target at Kensington Oval.
Scorpions (358 & 132) vs Jaguars (321) & 25-0 in Providence, Guyana
Motie grabbed 3-11 from 5.1 overs and Reifer 3-36 from 11 overs, as the Jags ran through the Scorpions second innings batting, leaving them to chase 170 for victory.
Scorpions, leading by 37 on first innings, lost opener Oraine Williams without a run on the board in the second over, but Test batsman Jermaine Blackwood and fellow international Chadwick Walton put on 57 for the second wicket.
Once they were dismissed in successive overs, the Scorpions never really recovered, losing their last nine wickets for 75.
Guyanese left-hander Assad Fudadin led the way with 24, Test batsman Jermaine Blackwood got 23, and Chadwick Walton added 23.
Left-handed openers Chandrapaul Hemraj, not out 16, and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, not out nine, made sure the Jaguars made a steady start and did not lose any wickets in four overs before stumps were drawn.
Earlier, Jaguars, starting the day on 203 for five, were guided first by a 60-run, sixth-wicket stand between Christopher Barnwell and Reifer.
Barnwell made 42 and Reifer got 27 before they fell in the same over to left-arm spinner Dennis Bulli before Anthony Bramble made 45 not out and dominate a 52-run, eighth-wicket stand with Romario Shepherd that cut the deficit.
Jerome Taylor claimed the last two Jaguars scalps to end with 3-27 from 14.2 overs and Bulli finished with 3-91 from 27 overs.
Hurricanes (271 & 199) vs Volcanoes (230) & 10-0 in Roseau, Dominica
Hodge snared 4-51 from 33.3 overs and Josh Thomas supported with 2-33 from 12 overs, as the Hurricanes, leading by 41 on first innings, were bowled out in the final hour before the close, setting Volcanoes 241 for victory.
Devon Thomas led the way for the Hurricanes with 43, his captain and WINDIES opener Kieran Powell made 33, Rahkeem Cornwall got 27 and Terance Warde added 20, as the visitors suffered an inexplicable batting meltdown.
Outside of a third-wicket stand of 60 between WINDIES left-handed opener Kieran Powell and Devon Thomas, there was little stability from the rest of the Hurricanes batting, as Hodge undermined them with his uncomplicated spin.
Earlier, Volcanoes, starting the day on 225 for seven, suffered a setback with their captain Kirk Edwards unable to bat, due to injury, and conceded a narrow first innings lead.
Sheno Berridge and Rahkeem Cornwall shared the last two scalps, ending with four wickets apiece.
Red Force (358 & 247-6 dec) vs Pride (282) & 15-0 in Bridgetown, Barbados
Leading by 76 on first innings, Red Force wasted little time building on their advantage with Ramdin hitting the top score of 86, and Lendl Simmons, a first innings century-maker, and rookie Joshua Da Silva getting 65 each.
Once again, the day belonged to Red Force. First, they took the last three Pride wickets for just 44, after their hosts resumed from their overnight total 238 for seven.
Ashley Nurse, unbeaten overnight on 71, added just four and stretched his eighth-wicket stand with Tevyn Walcott to 117 before he fell in the fourth over of the day off leg-spinner Yannic Cariah, whose 5-59 from 00 overs made him the pick of the Red Force bowlers.
Walcott, resuming the day on 34, then gathered precious runs for Pride, as he fashioned his maiden first-class half-century before he was last out for 63.
Red Force endured an early setback in their second innings, when left-handed opener Jeremy Solozano hooked at the first ball of the innings from pacer Marquino Mindley and was taken at fine leg without a run on the board.
Any hopes Pride harboured of making further inroads evaporated, as Simmons and Da Silva added 108 for the second wicket.
When Chemar Holder removed Simmons to a leg-side catch to keeper Walcott, Ramdin, promoted to four, added to the Pride’s frustrations, putting on a further 67 for the third wicket with Da Silva and 62 for the sixth wicket with Imran Khan before he became one of three wickets to fall to off-spinner Ashley Nurse to trigger the declaration.
