Q&A with Akeal Hosein

January 14, 2021

Akeal Jerome Hosein is WIPA’s feature for today. Aged 27, Akeal, aka ‘Dan’ or ‘Keely’, hails from Laventille, Trinidad and Tobago.

Akeal started playing cricket in a small Savannah near his home at around age 7 in a windball tournament.

His inspiration came mostly from his dad, but also, Akeal wants to create a better life for himself and his family. “Hearing a lot of ppl speak negatively about where I came from pushed me to do my best and to prove people that good can still come out of bad places.”

What was your reaction to hearing the news?
“I was very happy to hear the news; felt a sigh of relief.”

How does it feel so far?
“It’s a good feeling, happy and excited to be here and be given the opportunity to represent.”

“If called upon I hope to deliver in all aspects, batting, bowling and fielding, and to do what it takes to get my team across the line.”

What are you looking forward to most from the tour?
“I’m looking forward to getting my cap and seeing my name on my maroon jersey. I look forward to an enjoyable tour no matter my opportunities or outcome. I look forward to working with everyone and learning as I go along.”

Akeal lives by two quotes, “Become what you believe” and “keep the faith.”

We’re rooting for you Akeal, congrats and go well!
