Veersammy Permaul will be keen to reach a significant milestone in his career when he turns out for Team Weekes in the third and final match of the Headley Weekes Tri-Series at Coolidge Cricket Ground.
The experienced left-arm spinner is one wicket away from his 600th of his first-class career. He picked up three wickets in their first match last week, as West Indies Academy piled up 435 in the drawn match. Permaul made his first-class debut for Guyana against Windward Islands in Grenada back in 2007 and is the leading bowler in regional first-class cricket.
“I think I’m one wicket away from reaching 600 first class wickets,” said Permaul. “Having said that, it’s just another game and I have to go out and execute in the bowling department and make sure I’m consistent. It’s just another game for me. In the last game, I think the Academy boys really put up a showing. I think it wasn’t easy. We still had to stick to the basics and be patient against them.”
Play bowls off on Wednesday at 10am (9am Jamaica).
On the Team Headley end, fast bowler Akeem Jordan said conditions had been challenging for bowlers, but he is ready to put in a big effort over the four days.
“As you can see in the games so far, a lot of runs have been scored,” he said. “It’s a bit challenging bowling on the wickets but I like the challenge because you get to learn a lot when you’re bowling on these types of wickets. So you have to challenge yourself.”
Both matches have seen solid batting with a double hundred, three centuries and seven fifties struck. The West Indies Academy are on top of the standings with 32 points while Team Weekes have 10 points, and Team Headley 6.8 points.
The match will be streamed LIVE on the Windies Cricket YouTube channel with scorecards and ball-by-ball scoring on the Windiescricket.com LIVE match centre.
