Merryboys into TTCB T20 final

Merryboys Cricket Club are into the finals of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) Twenty20 (T20) tournament after they defeated First Citizens Clarke Road in the semi-finals at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, last evening.

Set to get 162 runs for victory, Clarke Road was well in the hunt at 100 for two in the 13th over but fell away after the dismissal of Barbadian Kyle Hope and Yannick Ottley. Hope opening the batting was the mainstay of the Clarke Road effort but when he fell for 65, the innings went downhill. He faced 45 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes. Ottley made 34 of 29 balls and the two added 68 runs in eight overs. Keon Isaac bowled brilliantly to take 4/15 as Clarke Road made 146/8 in 20 overs.

Batting first, Merryboys scored 161/6 which on the slow Brian Lara strip was a very good effort. Top scoring was Isaiah Rajah who made 39 from 39 balls with one four and two sixes. T&T Red Force player Amir Jangoo made a fluent 37 of 27 balls with two fours and three sixes. The veteran Lincoln Roberts who has been among the runs this season for Merryboys was the next best with 33 of just 17 balls with two fours and three sixes.

The pick of the bowlers for Clarke Road was Ahkeel Mollon 3/22 and Leewards Hurricances all rounder Rahkeem Cornwall 2/21.

Last night PowerGen was battling Central Sports in the other semis.
