Kent to feature in West Indies domestic tournament

A Sam Northeast-led Kent side will feature in the Regional Super50 2017, West Indies’ domestic one-day tournament. This will be the first time a County Championship side will be part of an overseas domestic tournament.

“It is a huge honour for Kent Cricket to be invited by West Indies Cricket Board to join their domestic 50-over competition in early 2017. It will be the perfect opportunity to play competitive off-season cricket and good overseas experience for the players,” James Clifford, Kent’s chief executive, said on Wednesday (November 16).

“It will be the perfect opportunity to play competitive off-season cricket and good overseas experience for the players. We look forward to helping make the competition a big success and introducing the Spitfires to cricket supporters in the Caribbean.”

Kent Spitfires will take on the Shimron Hetmyer’s World-Cup winning Under-19 side and senior teams from Trinidad and Tobago, Windward Islands and Leeward Islands in the group stages of the tournament which takes place in Antigua from January 24 to February 18, an official release stated.

“Regional players will have an opportunity to test their skills against their contemporaries from another region. We anticipate keen contests with our Franchise Teams. We are pleased to welcome them,”Roland Holder, the West Indies Cricket Board Operations Manager, said.
